Husqvarna ups the PACE

Having issued a number of teaser announcements on social media and other platforms in recent weeks, Husqvarna Construction Products has unveiled the first cordless power tool on a new battery platform, namely the K1 PACE disc cutter designed for heavier-duty applications.

The product, which was shown at the World of Concrete exhibition in Las Vegas this week, is expected to be available in the UK later this year when more technical details will be announced.

A wide range of other PACE (standing for power, agile, cordless, electric) tools will be introduced subsequently to meet the growing demand for sustainable products.

Initial information on the K1 is that it accepts 12in and 14in (300mm and 350mm) diamond blades, optimised for battery operation. It has the manufacturer’s X-Halt brake function which is designed to stop the blade rotating in a fraction of a second for safety.

“What we are presenting today is a breakthrough in the market for power cutters. We are extremely proud to introduce a high-power battery cutter that fully supports the transition to a low-carbon economy the construction industry needs," said Mattias Holmdahl, global product manager power cutters at Husqvarna Construction, at the unveiling.

“We see an increasing number of construction companies striving for carbon-neutral workplaces and as a leading supplier we feel a responsibility to contribute, together with our partners and customers, towards greater sustainability.”

Husqvarna says that the K1 offers power and performance equivalent to petrol-powered disc cutters, with zero direct emissions, lower vibration, low machine weight and an optimal centre of gravity to reduce body strain.

The manufacturer already offers the K535i disc cutter, which accepts a maximum diameter blade of 9in (230mm) and operates on a different battery platform.
