Tsurumi well on track

Tsurumi Pumps UK is well on track to meet its pledge to plant 10,000 trees this year as part of its strategy towards Net Zero.

As reported previously, the company is planting one tree in approved sustainable forestry programmes for every Tsurumi branded pump it supplies throughout 2024. These are being planted in the UK and overseas.

Figures for the first quarter of the year show that the total to date has already reached 3,300, with 301 of these having been planted in Derbyshire, Northumberland and Yorkshire through the Green Task Force charity,   employing ex-service veterans, as reported previously.

The remainder have been planted in Kenya via Carma, a B Corp certified company that verifies organisations for meeting high standards of social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability, as mentioned recently on the blog.

Some 62% of people in Kenya live below the poverty line and the mangrove trees that are being planted will provide employment and sustainable income streams, as well giving a source of nutrition to local communities. The trees also protect the coastline and help to prevent flooding during tropical storms.

Pete McMutrie, Tsurumi Pumps UK Sales Director, tells me that the equivalent of 1111 tonnes of CO2 have bee reduced through the initiative so far, with 33 days of work having been created. Overall, 20 different tree species have been planted.

“We are getting great feedback from our hire sector customers, who are incorporating it into their own scope 3 initiatives,” says Pete. “They are in turn communicating it to their customers hiring the equipment.

“We are also seeing a collaboration with our key dealers and distribution partners who are engaging with their customers about the initiative and promoting the benefits of buying and using Tsurumi products.

“With the project running throughout 2024, we are excited to see the totals continue to grow and we are on track to exceed our target of over 10,000 trees during the year, which would be amazing. We would like to thank each and every customer who has purchased a Tsurumi pump and are helping to change and improve lives both in the UK and Kenya.”

And you can find out more about Tsurumi’s pumps and planting initiatives on the company’s stand at the Hillhead construction equipment exhibition in Buxton from 25 to 27 June, stand CE5.
