Hydrogen drives forward
28 March 2024
The government has announced proposals to allow hydrogen-powered construction machinery and other equipment to be used on roads in Great Britain. The consultation will run for four weeks, closing on 24 April.
The move comes after the government issued JCB with a vehicle special order last year, giving the company permission to test its hydrogen-powered machines (pictured above) on UK roads.
This would expand the permission permanently across the sector, and it is hoped that manufacturers would be able to scale up production of sustainable equipment more easily for sites where the use of battery electric power is not practical.
