Mecalac launches electric site dumper

New from Mecalac is the eMDX electric 6-tonne site dumper.

Powered by a 75kWh battery, it provides an uninterrupted operating time of at least eight hours on a single charge and can be recharged in four hours, according to the manufacturer.

The eMDX incorporates a type 2 plug connector, similar to that used in electric vehicles, to facilitate charging. It can also be recharged via a 5-pin industrial socket, directly on a switchboard or site unit.

The machine is an electric counterpart to Mecalac’s diesel 6MDX dumper and is said to offer the same hydraulic and driving performance, with superior acceleration and manoeuvrability on sloping terrain.

The launch of the machine is part of a wider roll-out that includes two other electric models, namely the eS1000 swing loader, which has a 1000-litre capacity, and the already established e12 wheel loader, an 11-tonne unit.

Mecalac says that three of its zero-emission machines working together on the same urban site can save an average of 64 tonnes of CO2 that their combustion engine equivalents would have emitted over the course of a year.
