Himoinsa reveals Flogas LPG partnership

In a significant development, generator manufacturer Himoinsa has partnered with liquid gas supplier Flogas Britain to offer a turnkey solution for UK users seeking a cleaner and cost-effective alternative to diesel fuel.

Three years ago Himoinsa launched an LPG generator line-up which includes 30, 40, 70 and 110kVA models, all of which have Stage V emissions approval, as covered earlier on the blog.

The liquid gas is usually contained in large certified tanks located in the base of the generators, giving running times of typically 47, 35, 26 and 15 hours respectively. Himoinsa also offers larger-capacity machines running on LNG (liquefied natural gas).

However, under this new partnership agreement, Flogas and Himoinsa will provide tailored liquid gas solutions for temporary and permanent power generation requirements, with Himoinsa’s generators being kept topped up by regular liquid gas supplies from Flogas, along with customer support.

Liquid gas tanks will be fitted with auto-ordering technology, triggering a refill when levels are running low. In this way, the fuel can be managed in a similar way to using diesel, with longer running times.

The new partnership agreement has been reached for the UK market, and for those European countries where Flogas operates, to facilitate access to LPG and LNG for gas genset customers.

Himoinsa points out that dealers, hirers and customers are free to get gas from any supplier, but the company believes that the partnership approach will deliver reliability and quality benefits.

Clive Dix, managing director of UK subsidiary Himoinsa Power Solutions, says: "Our commitment is to drive the transition to a sustainable solution combining our diesel generators with alternative power solutions (biodiesel, battery, storage, hydrogen), with the gas gensets one of our key businesses. That’s why our partnership with Flogas has been a strategic deal to ensure a comprehensive gas power solution to our customers.”

David Taylor, commercial director at Flogas, commented: "Businesses running their generators on diesel will have recently faced significant price hikes, now that the [red diesel] subsidy has been lifted across most sectors. They also need to meet increasingly pressing sustainability targets and legislative requirements, which means many are now looking to invest in lower carbon alternatives.”

He added that liquid gas produces fewer carbon and other pollutant emissions such as nitrous oxides (NOx), sulphur oxides (SOx) and particulate matter (PM).

The liquid gas can be stored directly on site, in tanks above or below ground (see diagram below), and delivers consistent power, keeping productivity high, he said, with less risk of fuel theft.

Manuel Aguilera, global gas unit head at Himoinsa, said that the company’s LPG and LNG generator portfolio has been refined and improved over ten years, and that it has developed new technology such as its range of LPG generators with integrated tanks, for which patents are pending.

“Our commitment is to make life easier for companies which are looking to gas to power solutions, so thanks to this partnership, we can supply a state-of-the-art gas generator and Flogas ensures a smooth fuel supply and storage,” he added.

David Taylor of Flogas also said that, as new bio-LPG becomes available in the future, users of machines running on liquid gas will be able to use it as a direct drop-in replacement.
