Golden GAP

The Winter 2022 Paralympic Games are currently taking place in Beijing with athletes vying for medals, but elsewhere Gold of a different kind has been won by GAP Hire Solutions.

The hirer has achieved Gold certification in FORS (Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme), a voluntary initiative for fleet operators which aims to raise the level of quality within operations and demonstrate best practice in safety, efficiency and environmental protection.

GAP’s fleet comprises more than 700 commercial vehicles and the company states that holding FORS accreditation has helped the company focus on and put in place policies and procedures to ensure compliance with all aspects of transport law.

In working towards the Gold standard, GAP’s transport managers have participated in various workshops to stay up to date with the latest developments. 

Drivers have also undergone training courses offered by FORS to keep their knowledge and working practices updated, as well as undergoing regular health, fitness and well-being briefings and checks.

Chris Parr, chief operating officer at GAP, said that the company has put much effort and investment in achieving the FORS milestone.

“All of GAP’s HGV vehicles are fitted with state-of-the-art safety equipment such as cameras, nearside proximity aids and audible reversing alarms. We have invested in an industry leading asset delivery and telematics system which monitors driver behaviours and includes route planning to minimise unnecessary mileage and fuel usage. 

“GAP only purchases vehicles with the latest Euro 6 diesel engines, helping to reduce CO2, NOx (nitrogen oxides) and particulate matter emissions,” added Chris.
