Modular wash bay system

Going eco-friendly means that tool hirers and end users need to look closely at every aspect of their operations, and that includes the washing down of plant and machinery. 

Odour & Dust Solutions, which specialises in supplying equipment to deal with on-site contaminants, has developed a modular system of wash bays that are designed to recycle a high proportion of the water used. 

“We have included a sieve as a pre-filter to capture the larger debris and then the smaller contaminants are removed by the main filter, says director Gary Thomson. “Any oil in the water is removed by absorbent mats.” 

Officially launched in May, the company's UK-built Wash Bay has already been installed at depots operated by two national hirers. 

Panels and base components are of the same dimensions, making it easy to create the desired size of facility in 1.5m increments, says the company. A typical unit measures 3m by 3m.

The recycling tanks are also modular, so in areas of low rainfall or reduced water availability, dwell times can be extended.

“We can also fit ultraviolet light filters to sterilise the water without using chlorine tablets,” says Gary. 

Odour & Dust Solutions is looking to develop the system for use at farms, marinas and for remediation of vehicles on construction sites, which could be offered on a long-term hire basis.
