On the road to growth

Brian James Trailers is amongst the innovative manufacturers that stepped up to the challenges arising out of Covid-19 and have grown their business as a result. 

The family-owned company was founded more than 40 years ago and originally specialised in making trailers for the motor sport and vehicle transport industries. Business Development Manager Jim Cherry tells me that during the pandemic demand grew significantly. One reason was that, because people under lockdown could not visit car showrooms, they were buying online and having the vehicles delivered. 

Another growth factor was the amount of home improvement and landscaping work that people were undertaking while being furloughed, and contractors were busy transporting equipment to site. 

As a result of this upturn, Brian James Trailers decided to invest and expand the production facilities at its Daventry headquarters, which has given the capacity to develop additional products. 

One of these is a larger version of its Digger Plant trailer which has a 2.8m bed with a gross weight of 3500kg and a maximum 2910kg load capacity. This enables heavier models of mini excavators and other machines to be towed, such as spider lifts and compact access platforms. 

Jim Cherry says the trailer is designed for ease of use as well as robustness for high residual values. Standard equipment includes a bucket rest, LED lights, heavy-duty jockey wheel, spare wheel and locking hitch. 

Brian James Trailers, which exhibited at last month's Executive Hire Show (pictured), is also exploring a number of overseas markets.
