Protect workers’ hearing

While it is important to protect workers’ hearing in potentially noisy environments, it is also crucial that they maintain situational awareness concerning what is going on around them. 

EAVE manufactures Focuslite ear defenders which are designed to enable this, as well as being able to log data via Bluetooth relating to an individual user’s exposure to noise that can be used for Health & Safety records. 

The information can also be analysed on an online platform to give insights into the nature of exposure to noise in order to see if improvements can be made to the work site. It also shows if workers have been wearing the ear defenders issued to them. 

The Focuslite headsets have been added to the Speedy Hire fleet and Rajiv Sharma, National Technical Manager with Speedy Asset Services tells me that they incorporate microphones and speakers to allow users to communicate easily. Headband and helmet-mounted versions are available. 

EAVE was founded by Dr David Greenberg who used to work as an audiologist in the NHS and he went on to invent the Focuslite range. He believes that workplace noise will be the subject of more workplace inspections by Health and Safety Executive assessors in the near future.
