Tsurumi set to splash out

The Met Office declared 2023 to be a white Christmas in the UK as snow fell on 25 December in parts of Scotland. However, it has been a wet and wild start to the new year for many in the wake of Storm Gerrit, whose impact was felt throughout much of the country.

Tsurumi Pumps UK says that this has resulted in a brisk start to 2024 for the company in meeting demand for equipment to assist with related clean-up opreations which, in turn, means that the its latest initiative has hit the round running.

As reported earlier on the blog, Tsurumi has pledged to plant a tree in approved sustainable forestry programmes for every Tsurumi brand pump it supplies throughout 2024 in the UK as part of its corporate drive towards net zero.

Trees will be planted in the UK and overseas, and the company has set itself the target of at least 10,000.

The UK tree planting will be carried out by Carma, a B Corp certified company that verifies organisations for meeting high standards of social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability.

“We are encouraging all our customers to join us on the journey, too, and we can register trees in their name if they wish following their purchase,” said Pete McMutrie, Sales Director with Tsurumi Pumps UK.

“Sustainability is one of our key objectives. As a company, we became Scope 1 and Scope 2 carbon neutral by 2023 and our head office in Maidstone is powered by solar panels.”

Update on Wednesday, 3 January: currently more than 300 flood warnings are in place in England after the new Storm Henk battered parts of the country. The storm, which is the eighth in three months, was named much later than usual and only hours before its impact because it was small and still developing early the previous morning. The BBC is reporting that hundreds of properties located near the River Severn in the West Midlands are flooded, in some cases for the fourth time this winter.
