Explosion-proof cabinets
15 November 2023
The issue of lithium-ion battery safety has featured on the blog in recent months, and the manufacturer CEMO says that its fire-proof battery storage and charging cabinets now incorporate as standard a system designed to minimise damage in the event of an explosion caused by gases emitted during a fire.
CEMO’s Geoff Miller tells me that the patented lockEX system has been developed to release explosive energy in a controlled way via a narrow gap, even if the event is instantaneous.
Strong integral springs inside the locking system allow the cabinet doors to open very slightly, allowing pressure to dissipate quickly while keeping the integrity of the unit. This prevents burning materials being thrown across the surrounding area.
