Plant sales bounce back

Newly released figures show that construction equipment sales staged something of a bounce back in June.

According to data from the statistics exchange run by Systematics International in partnership with the Construction Equipment Association (CEA), retail sales during the month were 8 per cent above last year’s level, meaning that sales in the second quarter were 3 per cent ahead of 2022.

Sales of mini and midi excavators, the most popular product category, were particularly strong.

The CEA says that sales in the first half of 2023 year have now reached 19,600 units which is 7 per cent ahead of same period last year. It points out that, while current sentiment in the market is still anticipating a modest downturn in sales in the second half, this will be from very high levels achieved in the first half of the year.

Road rollers showed the strongest growth at 37 per cent above last year’s levels, following very strong sales in June.
