Datatag, the developer of the technology behind the CESAR scheme to prevent plant theft, has introduced an enhancement for the system in the form of UHF RFID tags. 

These allow information to be scanned and read from greater distances by Police to check a machine's identity quickly and safely with inbuilt security. 

This was one of the aspects of the scheme discussed by Datag MD Kevin Howells at the Interpol Global Vehicle Crime Conference in Lyon, of which the company was a sponsor.

He outlined the scheme’s success in tackling plant and machinery theft, as well as the addition of CESAR ECV to quickly identify a machine’s environmental approvals. 

“This conference was a perfect platform to share best practice with those dealing with the issue of vehicle theft head-on around the world,” said Kevin.

“The CESAR scheme, which we are proud to be the power behind, has since 2007 shown what can be done to reduce theft in both the construction and agricultural markets and we have had some extremely positive discussions with numerous delegates about the benefits of introducing this award-winning scheme in new territories.  

“We are confident that we will be able to announce some exciting news regarding CESAR’s expansion into Europe and beyond in the coming months.”

Datatag’s secure database currently has more than 1.5 million assets registered. The company will be promoting the latest developments at the Plantworx exhibition taking place on 13 to 15 June at the East of England Showground.
