Nixon’s green Pledge

Nixon Hire recently signed up to the Pledge To Net Zero initiative, a global environmental industry commitment to tackle greenhouse gas emissions.

The campaign has been approved as a formal partner to the United Nation’s ‘Race To Zero’ strategy to rally fast climate action from businesses, organisations, investors and other stakeholders worldwide.

As a signatory, Nixon Hire has committed to set and commit to deliver greenhouse gas reductions in line with the Science Based Targets initiative’s (SBTi) 1.5C climate change scenario and to publicly report progress made against the targets each year.

The company is also obliged to either publish a piece of research each year into practical steps towards delivering an economy in line with climate science and in support of net zero carbon, or to provide mentoring and support for smaller signatory companies in setting their targets, reporting results and meeting other pledge requirements.

Anthony Livermore, Nixon Hire’s Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality (SHEQ) Director, said: “ESG [environment, social and corporate governance] is a key component in Nixon Hire’s company wide vision and values, and with great pride we are committed to Pledge To Net Zero. We welcome the challenge and hard work it requires to provide a more sustainable world for future generations.”

He added that the company is involved in other initiatives designed to support the construction industry in implementing environmentally friendly solutions, details of which will be announced in the near future.

Last year the business launched its Carbon Reduction Roadmap setting out short, medium and long-term targets to achieve net zero operations by 2035.
