Green-fingered Tsurumi

Tsurumi Pumps UK reports a successful start to its latest Net Zero initiative. 

As reported earlier, the company is planting a tree for every Tsurumi brand pump purchased in the UK by customers in 2024. The overall target is to plant more than 10,000 in the UK and overseas this year, and the running total in the ground had already reached over 1,200 by the end of January. 

Trees absorb harmful greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide (CO2) and release oxygen back into the atmosphere. They can also help prevent flooding, reduce local temperatures and provide habitats for wildlife. 

The plantings to date comprise four different tree species and will remove an estimated 325 tonnes of CO2 from the atmosphere.

Tsurumi has partnered with Carma, a B Corp-certified company that is carrying out the tree-planting project at locations in the UK and Kenya.

As an additional benefit, Carma recruits military veterans to plant the trees via the Green Task Force, a charity which combines taking action against global warming and providing re-employment opportunities. 

Tsurumi Sales Director Pete McMutrie says that the longevity of the company’s products also delivers green benefits, since they typically require less frequent replacement and can be reconditioned.

The longest recorded Tsurumi pump was in service for an astonishing 38 years, providing low whole-life costs and increasing return on investment for fleet owners. 

The company has added a live tracker on its website which records how many trees have been planted and the carbon reductions achieved so far.
