United Rentals outlines green roadmap

US hire giant United Rentals has produced a white paper outlining ways in which its customers can implement sustainable business practices that reduce equipment greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions while maintaining job site productivity and safety.

The document, entitled Roadmap to Low-Emission and Zero-Emission Jobsites, suggests four practical steps to reduce emissions and the appropriate tools and equipment to consider.

The company says that digital tools can help users to reach lower-emission targets without erasing profit margins.

“For companies with budgets large or small, reducing job site emissions is possible now,” said Grant Zoldowski, Director of Environmental Management at United Rentals. “A smart job site sustainability strategy starts with data. Targeting the predominant sources of emissions on projects and job sites allows companies to focus their efforts and dollars on changes that will yield the biggest results. This approach provides the foundation for more sustainable power generation, battery storage and electric equipment options.”

The white paper suggests four main initiatives that users can take to achieve greater sustainability. These include identifying the biggest improvement opportunities based on data, and embracing power generation alternatives such as generators using propane, natural gas, renewable diesel or hydrogen, as well as using solar panels and battery energy storage systems, and electric or hybrid equipment.
