Efficient lighting from Kight

A new range of off-grid LED lighting products that are designed to harness solar and wind power is being introduced by a County Durham based manufacturer.

Kight originally developed models for permanent and semi-permanent street lighting applications for councils and contractors, and the company is now launching versions for other purposes such as zonal temporary illumination of car parks and walkways.

Head of Sales & Marketing, Brandon Weston, says that products like the KV6 portable site light can perform consistently throughout UK winter conditions without needing a backup charging system, owing to its use of low energy LED lights, plus dual integration of solar and wind energy input, as well as its highly efficient, next generation battery technology which is fast charging and said to have a much longer lifespan than current battery solutions.

He says that wind and solar sources have traditionally been difficult to integrate but that Kight has developed a control system to achieve this.

“This enables the unit to grab every available bit of energy on a site to feed into the battery, which is unaffected by hot or cold weather. It can perform at temperatures down to minus 25C and up to 50C.”

Brandon says the battery system is also very efficient in being able to handle higher quantities of solar energy, such as when the sun is shining brightly, and that it charges faster giving longer-lasting performance.

He also says that the batteries can be completely depleted and then fully recharged with little adverse affect. The formulation is described as utilising non-graphite based anode technology that is exclusive to Kight, who developed it.

Kight sees significant hire potential for the KV6, which has been trialled successfully by Sunbelt Rentals. Other products using the technology are under development.
