A recent webinar organised by Powr2 provided an excellent example of how new energy sources can simplify operation as well delivering sustainability benefits.

The session gave an overview of the manufacturer’s recently launched Powrsync units which enables up to four Powr2 Powrbank battery storage machines to be connected together and run in parallel for combined maximum output and uninterrupted power supply capability.

Frank Moyer, Powr2’s Sales Director, said that operating a Powrsync installation resembled parallel running of conventional diesel generators, a concept which many users are familiar with, simplifying the learning curve.

In operation a backup diesel generator charges the lithium-ion phosphate battery Powrbank units via the Powrsync, which then distributes power from the batteries where it is required.

The parallel configuration makes it possible for a system to deal more easily with peak power loadings such as when starting machines with large motors, and if a unit should fail then the others can compensate.

A Powrsync system can also be configured so that two Powrbanks, say, are permanently on call while the others charge, to deal with applications like night-time running when demand is low. The diesel generator kicks in to recharge the batteries as necessary.

Frank Moyer said that, once configured, a Powrsync setup would typically require minimal user intervention, showing how new energy sources like this can simplify site management.
