Solar gains for AJC

More evidence of the increasing interest in sustainable site equipment come from AJC Power Solutions’ Mike Robbins, who joined the site welfare unit manufacturer’s specialist division in June as a Business Development Manager.
“More hire companies and contractors are realising that diesel machines will eventually be phased out and that they need to get on board with green equipment,” he told me.
“Customers are telling me that it’s being driven by environmental legislation and regulations, which shows that the innovation required isn’t just in the products: it’s the mindset of the user that has to change. Going green isn’t just ticking a box; it is the box.”
Mike says that AJC’s Solar Smart Frame is proving particularly popular. The unit has a photovoltaic panel assembly that fits on to welfare unit roofs to harness the sun's energy for on-site usage.
“A housebuilder with, say, six welfare units can fit a Solar Smart Frame to all of them and generate 3kW from each one,” said Mike. “That could provide enough power to run virtually an entire setup.
“You can use the installation with a small generator for backup, and with a battery storage unit like our Solar Pod (pictured), the generator will hardly be needed in typical operation.”
Mike also said that a growing number of hirers are seeing the opportunity to offer such equipment and are considering establishing specialist operations to serve this market.
