Speedy Hire’s journey towards greater sustainability continues to gain momentum with the business now having been named as a Financial Times Climate Leader for 2023.

Already having a Silver ranking from the EcoVadis environmental rating agency, the company says this latest achievement positions it in the top 2 per cent of businesses in the UK for decarbonisation readiness.

Speedy has previously signed up to approved science-based targets with the aim to achieve net-zero status by 2040, ten years ahead of the government’s deadline.

The hirer’s Decade to Deliver roadmap, outlining its sustainability journey within the next ten years, will be released in the coming weeks, presenting ambitious targets to reduce Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 50 per cent and Scope 3 emissions by 42 per cent by 2030. Speedy says that eco-friendly products in its hire fleet now accounts for more than half of its revenues.

The company has also worked with Niftylift to design and manufacture what is described as the world’s first hydrogen-powered boom lift (pictured below), as reported previously on the blog.

Amelia Woodley, Speedy’s ESG Director, said: “Our Decade to Deliver strategy places sustainability and responsibility at the centre of everything we do. To be recognised as a European Climate Leader by the Financial Times is testament to the tangible evidence of our progress to date and reinforces our public commitment to continue to lead the industry towards decarbonisation.”

The annual list is compiled by the Financial Times in partnership with the market research agency Statista, elects 500 European and UK companies that lead their industry in environmental performance and credentials towards achieving net zero by 2050.
