Hot from Makita

Illustrating the power capabities of modern battery technology, Makita has just introduced a cordless microwave oven.

Designated the MW001GZ, the 8-litre capacity oven is powered by one or two batteries from the manufacturer’s 40VMax XGT platform and is designed to utilise the power sequentially for continuous power as it is needed.

With two output settings of 500W or 350W, the inner heating area is designed to be large enough to accommodate most microwavable containers and provides a continuous heating time of up to 37 minutes when used with two 8.0Ah BL4080F batteries at 500W output.

As many construction professionals will already own or hire these batteries along with their tools, the unit will make a seamless addition to their equipment portfolio.

To withstand tough work site conditions, the oven has tempered door glass and is dust and water resistant. A USB port is also provided for charging mobile phones and other devices.

Kevin Brannigan, Marketing Manager with Makita UK, describes the cordless microwave as a world-first.

"The new MW001GZ is the perfect job site or leisure companion, affording users with a hot, microwaved meal or drink in minutes without the need for sourcing an AC supply or power generators,” he says.

It won’t replace the appliance in your kitchen. But recalling the threats of power cuts last winter, this product might also be useful in the event of emergency outages or electricity supply restrictions.
