Fuel savings as clear as a Bell

Gloucestershire-based groundwork and civil engineering specialist Bell Contracting has reduced its fleet CO2 emissions by 86 tonnes per year and cut its diesel consumption by 33,000 litres, through the use of FuelActive’s clean fuel delivery system.
The company, a division of the KW Bell Group, has installed the product in 50 of its 95 excavators so far and has been impressed by the rapid return on investment.
“FuelActive will give us a return on capital in less than a year, in fact in just eight months,” said MD Peter Bell, pictured above. “In all my years of investing in plant equipment, I’ve never known anything with such a quick return. And with the ever-increasing cost of fuel, you have to hone in on every drop.”
Bell Contracting was introduced to the product by Simon Tomblin (pictured below), MD of the award-winning equipment hirer Rocket Rentals based in Slimbridge, who has used it successfully for three years.
Simon first became aware of FuelActive three years ago when it had been fitted to a Genquip Groundhog welfare unit. Rocket now fits it across its plant fleet which includes excavators, site dumpers, compaction equipment and telehandlers, as well as its HGV delivery trucks.
FuelActive’s patented fuel delivery system replaces the machine’s standard fuel pick-up pipe and works by avoiding contaminants such as water, small particles and diesel bug bacteria that settle at the bottom of the tank.
Bell Contracting provides groundwork services to many of the country’s top house building companies, working within a 60-mile radius of its Forest of Dean base.
“Stage V engines are fantastic, they are ultra-clean,” said Peter Bell. “But ultimately, an ultra-clean engine wants ultra-clean fuel and managing ultra-clean fuel on a housing site is very difficult. With FuelActive, we’ve got confidence that the fuel we use in a great engine is always clean.”
By delivering clean fuel from the tank, the engine operates at maximum efficiency, reducing fuel consumption and ensuring the lowest possible exhaust emissions, says FuelActive.
