Speedy puts ESG on Executive Board

Speedy is again demonstrating its commitment to sustainability and corporate social responsibility by appointing an ESG Director, namely Amelia Woodley, to its Executive Board. It believes it is the first UK hire company to do so. Andy Johnson, Health, Safety, Security, Environment, and Quality (HSSEQ) Director, has also been appointed as an Executive Board Director.

Research suggests that around 70 per cent of board directors feel their board is ineffective at integrating sustainability into governance and strategy building, according to a BCG (Boston Consulting Group)-INSEAD survey.

Amelia Woodley (pictured below) brings almost 20 years’ experience to the board, having worked with Speedy for two years and having previously held senior roles at South Western Railway, Network Rail and BAE Systems. Her experience in delivering award-winning sustainability programmes will help Speedy continue to drive down carbon emissions and enhance social value across the business and its wider supply chain.

"I am delighted to become the board’s first ESG Director,” she said. “Since joining Speedy the support and enthusiasm for ESG has been perceptible throughout the whole organisation: within leadership, at the board level, in the way everyone within the company embraces the ESG agenda. This development echoes Speedy’s drive to do better and be better and will help us to continue to reach our goals.”

Andy Johnson (also shown below) similarly brings over 20 years of experience in HSSEQ, having worked with Speedy and holding senior positions in oil and gas activities in the Middle East. He also has extensive experience in warehousing, logistics and the utilities and construction sectors. He is an associate of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA) and a chartered member of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH).

"I am excited to be part of this ambitious Executive Board helping Speedy deliver safe and sustainable operations and look forward to working directly with my colleagues to achieve our goals," he said.

Dan Evans, Speedy’s Chief Executive and a board member of the Supply Chain Sustainability School, commented: “Responsibility and sustainability have always been at the heart of everything we do at Speedy. We are delighted to welcome Amelia and Andy to the Executive Board as we continue to drive positive change for our customers, our business and our suppliers.”
