Hilti joins green building organisation

Hilti Great Britain has become the latest member of the UK Green Building Council (UKGBC), following its focus on sustainability which sees the company aiming for carbon neutrality by the end of the year, and net zero by 2050.

Membership of the council is externally assessed against key sustainability metrics, and from 2021 the UKGBC has required all its business members to demonstrate that they have a commitment to tackling climate change and a genuine focus on sustainability.

To minimise its effect on the environment, the Hilti Group committed to become CO2 neutral in its own operations (Scope 1 and 2) by 2023. Like most other organisations, the majority of its emissions (90 per cent in Hilti’s case) occur across its supply chain (Scope 3) and make further reductions the group is setting a near and long-term CO2 reduction target through its commitment to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

UKGBC membership enables Hilti’s 1,000-strong GB workforce to make use of the council’s learning and development programme, as well as its four regional networks in Manchester, Birmingham, the South West and Scotland.

Margaux Wibin, Hilti’s Sustainability Manager for Great Britain, said: “Joining the council makes complete sense due to the matching vision of Hilti to ‘Making Construction Better’ and UKGBC of a ‘Better Built Environment’.”
