Hilti unveils Nuron in UK

Hilti has held a series of presentations this week in Manchester to formally launch its new Nuron cordless tools platform in the UK. The system was successfully rolled out in North America and Canada earlier this year.

Described by the manufacturer as one of the most significant innovations in its history, Nuron uses a 22V platform with a next-generation interface between a tool and the battery packs that enables more power to be delivered. This gives performance across the range that is as good as, or in some cases better than, a corded or petrol powered equivalent.

As an earlier story on the blog reported, Hilti has developed 70 new or redesigned models using the Nuron system. More than 60 others will be launched in the near future.

I’ll be posting more about the system and its significance in greater depth soon, but here’s a quick look at a few of the new introductions that were featured during the presentation I attended.

The DSH 600-22 (above) is the Nuron battery equivalent of Hilti’s DSH 600-X petrol cut off saw and is said to deliver power equivalent to a 60cc engine, but without the fumes, noise, maintenance or fuel mix issues.

The tool can accept a 12in diameter blade and it uses two Nuron battery packs that enable it to cut as much concrete as with a full tank of fuel on the petrol equivalent. The batteries can be recharged in 30 minutes using the fastest of three chargers that are available.

The VC10-22 (below) is a dust collector that can be connected to tools for the removal of debris at source, and which can be worn as a backpack unit to give greater working flexibility and eliminate trailing cables. The wet and dry vacuum is an M-Class machine and can be fitted with a Hepa filter for H-Class operation.

It was demonstrated attached to the new TE30-22 combi hammer which was using one of Hilti’s specially designed hollow drill bits designed to facilitate dust collection.

Hilti believes that the Nuron system will enable construction sites in the future to become completely cordless in terms of their power tool usage, because of the amount of usable power it offers. For example, it can be used with equipment like a 30kg class breaker, as well as bringing Health & Safety and productivity benefits.

More on that and further details about the Nuron range soon…
