Hilti to launch new cordless tool platform

Hilti is rolling out a new 22V cordless platform based on a single battery system that is designed to cover all relevant applications from light to heavy-duty. Called Nuron, it is designed to simplify tool usage on site.

The manufacturer says that operators often face the problem of needing different energy sources for their equipment, with cordless platforms using different voltages for various applications, as well as corded machines and petrol-powered tools.

This can lead to searches for tools and the right batteries, using multiple chargers and introducing potential risks from trailing cables.

Nuron products went on sale in North America in January and the global rollout will continue through 2022, including European markets. However, Hilti previewed the system at the Executive Hire Show last week.

All Hilti batteries and chargers are interchangeable with all Nuron tools. Hilti states that the 22V platform delivers a level of performance that enables it to power heavy-duty applications that were traditionally restricted to corded, petrol-powered or higher voltage battery systems.

The manufacturer says that the basis for this is a completely redesigned battery interface to provide significantly higher power transfer than corded mains systems, and thus higher performance.

The Nuron batteries have robust fibreglass-reinforced housings and external shock-absorbing bumpers, and the electronics are fully sealed to protect against moisture and dust.

In addition, the tools generate data which is stored on the batteries and sent securely to the cloud during every charge without any operator interaction. This information includes details such as utilisation, charging location and battery health, and alerts can be issued if action is needed.

This data can be accessed on-demand as required and is available on mobile and desktop platforms via Hilti’s ON!Track software.

Hilti says that 70 tools will be available from launch, including redesigned models, with ergonomics, weight and robustness having been optimised, and they are compatible with an approved tethering system to prevent tools falling when working at heights.

Other technological advances for safety are also being developed by the company following feedback from construction professionals.
