Buckhurst powers ahead

Buckhurst Plant Hire reports that it has invested a total of £12.5 million over the past 12 months in new machinery and equipment to meet growing demand from construction projects across the UK. 

These latest purchases include an additional 150 excavators, 75 telehandlers and 40 dumpers, all of which include telematics and safety systems, to help reduce emissions and fuel consumption. As well as machinery, Buckhurst added four new Scania trucks to its transportation fleet.

The machinery portfolio also includes specialist utility equipment for the overhead lines and underground cabling sectors, some of which was highlighted on the company’s stand at the recent Energyx2023 exhibition in Edinburgh.

These include Tesmec puller tensioners (pictured) for installing overhead cables. Peter Cheers, Business Development Manager at Buckhurst, says one of the advantages of hiring is that the company can tailor machines for customers with options such as nylon sectors on the capstan wheels to reduce abrasion and friction. 

The units also have data logging capabilities to log pulling speeds and other information.

Other specialist equipment for the power infrastructure market include work platform gantries that attach to pylons, and 4×4 tractors with attachments like hydraulic winches and cranes. 

Buckhurst has 11 depots nationwide including those of Spartan Equipment Sales & Rental which was acquired in 2021. In February 2023, the business bought BC Plant Hire & Transport in South Wales.
