Mecc Alte gets tough

Mecc Alte has developed a new range of alternators to meet the needs of manufacturers of generators for use in demanding locations, including those typically encountered in the hire industry.

The V-Type alternators are designed to withstand operation in harsh environments such as salt-laden marine atmospheres or work sites where dust ingress in likely, such as in quarries. Other demanding conditions can be found in oil and gas projects, and even in facilities like chicken farms where high levels of methane could be encountered.

The alternators’ windings have a tape coating and the winding head base of the stator has similar protection banding on its lower radius, which is typically the area nearest a generator’s air intake.

An integrated controller and alternator communication system has also been developed for the V-Type units. Information collected is accessible from anywhere in the world via a cloud-based system.

Speaking during a webinar to promote the new alternators, Jonathan Stokes, Mecc Alte UK’s Sales and Marketing Director, suggested there had been more developments in the power generation market over the past two years than in the previous 20. This means that manufacturers are now looking at the whole-life costs of products for longevity and environmental considerations.

“With these enhancements, the V-Type is built to last, yet we know that a robust power generator set is not just about how suitable it is for its operating conditions, but its ability to function as one resilient unit,” he said.

“As power generation becomes much more about complete solutions than products, we’re creating value by supplying original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) with alternators, controllers, battery chargers and governors required for their generators.”
