ERA cybersecurity guide
1 March 2023
The European Rental Association (ERA) has updated its guide to cybersecurity for the hire industry.
The document outlines special factors that the sector might face and details practices being adopted today by some major companies.
Besides attacking email networks via phishing, malware and ransomware, threats include the hacking of telematics and geolocation platforms to pinpoint equipment and steal it.
The report also discusses the issue of cyber insurance which, it says, can be onerous to apply for and expensive.
Michel Petitjean, ERA Secretary General, said: “One of the greatest threats impacting the equipment rental industry is the vulnerability to cybersecurity impacts on our businesses. Since we first released our cybersecurity guide in 2021, this threat has only increased due to global events and the intensification of digitalisation.
“With this updated guide, we continue to identify and communicate leading practice in cybersecurity that can support our industry, where an equipment rental company can evaluate where it stands in relation to cybersecurity and identify leading practice it can aspire to.”
The publication, which has drawn on information provided by ERA members including Ardent, Boels Rental, HSS Hire, Kiloutou, Loxam and Sunbelt Rentals, can be read and downloaded here <<< https://cybersecurity.erarental.org/ >>>
