CPA’s Star performers

Many hire industry personnel were amongst those achieving success in the CPA’s Stars of the Future Awards, which were presented during a ceremony at the Heart of England Conference and Events Centre near Coventry on July 7.
The awards recognise and reward outstanding apprentices and trainees in the construction plant sector. The association received a total of 72 nominations, representing the highest ever entry figure in the awards programme’s ten-year history.
Winners from the hire industry included:
Jack Chubb, Phoenix Hire & Sales – National Plant Technician of the Year (Level 3) and Plant Technician of the Year – Wales
Yasmin Bell, Sunbelt Rentals: Hire Controller of the Year
Luke Cooper, Boels Rental: Judges’ Special Award and Winner, Plant Technician of the Year – North
Jonathan Jones, CRH Plant: Winner, Plant Mechanic of the Year – North
Thomas Joynt, Sunbelt Rentals: Highly Commended, Plant Mechanic of the Year – North
Lucas Creasey, L Lynch Plant Hire & Haulage: Highly Commended, Plant Mechanic of the Year – Midlands
William Curzon, Speedy Services: Highly Commended, Plant Mechanic of the Year – South
Thomas Jones, GT Access: Highly Commended, Plant Mechanic of the Year – Wales
Louie Masson, GAP Group: Winner, Plant Mechanic of the Year – Scotland and Highly Commended, National Plant Mechanic of the Year
Ben Thomas, Brandon Hire Station: Highly Commended, Plant Technician of the Year – North
Haydon Measor, Sunbelt Rentals: Highly Commended, Plant Technician of the Year – North
Ryan Boden, Sunbelt Rentals: Winner, Plant Technician of the Year – Midlands
Jessica Holmes, Flannery Plant Hire: Highly Commended, Plant Operative of the Year
Ryan Walker, L Lynch Plant Hire & Haulage: Highly Commended, Plant Operative of the Year
Prizes awarded included tool kits, training courses, iPads, an overseas visit to a crane manufacturer and a trip to the Bauma exhibition in Munich taking place this October.
Kevin Minton, chief executive of the CPA said: “The standard of entries for Stars of the Future this year was exceptional and the judges certainly had a difficult task on their hands choosing the winners.”
The headline Awards sponsor was Sunbelt Rentals and other sponsors included M O’Brien Plant Hire, Flannery Plant Hire, L Lynch Plant Hire & Haulage, and Southern Hoist Services whose Kirsty Archbold-Laming was one of the 14 industry judges.
