CRH on a roll
22 June 2022
CRH Plant (Cotswold Roller Hire) has developed a remote-controlled version of Bomag’s BW 120 AG roller. The prototype machine received its first public viewing at the Hillhead plant and equipment exhibition near Buxton which opened for business yesterday.
Adam Hunt, CRH’s sales director, tells me that the company sourced the remote control system from a specialist supplier who adapted it for the purpose with Bomag’s approval.
“The machine is ideal for use on applications such as on inclines. It has 5 + 2 exclusion zone lighting and a Spillard human detection system operating within a 2m radius, and which will not be activated by non-humanoid items like cones or bollards.”
The roller is fitted with Bomag’s Economizer indication system which shows the level of compaction achieved. Instead of being mounted on a dashboard, the lighting display has been installed on the machine’s roll protection bar for visibility.
Adam says the remote control machine is the result of 18 month’s research and development. Interestingly, he adds that it could be fitted on to any roller.
CRH Plant was recently acquired by Lancashire-based Fox Group, as reported previously on the blog.
