Merchant ready for hire

Builders' merchants Parker Building Supplies and Chandlers Building Supplies are on track for launching their new in-branch tool hire service.

The first outlet to introduce the hire activity will be at Petworth, near Chichester, next month. This will be followed by Godstone and Eastbourne later in October, reaching a total of six by the end of the year within the group’s Parkers, Fairalls and Chandlers brand network.

As  reported earlier on the blog, the new hire operation is being headed up by Simon Gibbons, pictured, who has previously worked with A-Plant, Travis Perkins and Grafton Group hire activities.

“This is an exciting development for the business. It will provide our builder clients with any equipment, including specialist tools and machinery,” he said.

“We will concentrate on offering small tools and equipment – the fast-moving items that our customers typically need. We will also have strong cross-hire partnerships with other hirers for larger plant and machines.”

Two dedicated hire staff will be based at each location. Specialist workshops and compounds have been constructed for the new facilities, along with wash-down stations and the installation of a new computer system.

Chandlers, Parker Building Supplies and Fairalls, plus the Stamco Timber brand, are part of the Independent Builders Merchant Group (IBMG) which has 39 branches in the south east of England and the Midlands.
