HALT on a roll

HALT on a roll

Business continues to be strong for HALT Hire based in Stockton-on-Tees.

Demand is such that managing director Simon Whitfield tells me, “I’ve never known anything like it. We had a record April and the utilities market is particularly buoyant.

“We’ve just added three more Mecalac pedestrian rollers (pictured), two additional Wacker Neuson compact dumpers and three extra mini excavators from Wacker Neuson and Bobcat. They’re all out on hire and we’ve got a 2.5-tonne Bobcat mini on order.

“I’m also trying to get more compaction plates from several suppliers but I’m being quoted August for delivery.

“We’ve taken delivery of another 22 portable toilets for our recently established HALT Toilet Hire sister operation. Seven of them went straight out on hire and we’ve ordered 22 more that are coming in July.”

Simon tells me that he’s just about to start a project to build a new house. He sold his old home last October and is currently renting. He’s allowing 18 months for the construction because, as many hirers are reporting, tradesmen are so busy and have long waiting lists to work through before they can add more tasks.

He’s also keeping a watchful eye on the price of building materials which, as the blog has been reporting, are under upward pressure.
