Flat-pack convenience

Flat-pack convenience

Demand from construction businesses and event organisers for equipment to lower their carbon footprint has led to the portable toilet supplier Site Equip to add an innovative product line.

The Rapidloo is a flat-pack toilet cubicle resembling a normal plastic unit but designed for operational and environmental efficiency.

“My brother and fellow director, Adam, and I saw the product at an exhibition in Germany last year just before the pandemic hit,” Site Equip’s Amy Gilbert tells me.

“I really didn’t believe it when the manufacturer said the Rapidloo could be assembled in three minutes, so I had a go – and did it easily.

“It comprises a roof, four walls and a base with a tank. They all stack neatly together. There’s also a locking mechanism that makes it tamper-proof.

“On projects like festivals where we supply hundreds of toilets at one location, it means we can fit 96 units flat-packed on a truck rather than 20 conventional ones. This reduces the number of deliveries and lowers the overall carbon footprint,” says Amy.

“The Rapidloo is also ideal for sites with operational restrictions, such as historic properties and stately homes, and also for locations with difficult access. They can even be installed in underground facilities like car parks.”

• Amy tells me that Site Equip’s third depot (pictured) in Stotfold, Hertfordshire, has made a rapid start since opening in January – mentioned on the blog here.
