Web wizardry

With so many people staying at or working from home during the pandemic, the coronavirus has highlighted the importance of having a website and using social media as business platforms.

Vooba is a digital marketing agency with clients in various industries, including around 100 in tool, equipment and event hire. Its services include content creation, website building, technical services like email hosting, search engine optimisation (SEO), social media and pay-per-click (PPC) advertising with Google AdWords.

Bringing in business

“Initially during the pandemic, some clients put things like SEO and Google AdWords on hold, waiting to see how business levels came back,” managing director Tony Humberstone tells me. “Some are still being very cautious but I can’t quite understand it because, in my opinion, they are missing out on something that will actually help bring them business.

“If someone is searching Google for, say, a mini digger in their local area, you want them to find your business.”

Three years ago, Vooba (then called PPC Stars) acquired the website developer, Abnix Solutions. Its site-building services are now being broadened to include on-line booking and e-commerce capability, as more hirers are adding retail activities.

A fact of life

One of Vooba’s clients is Blackpool-based Smiths Equipment Hire, whose successes with digital marketing were the subject of an earlier blog post.

“We are also creating and posting social media messages on behalf of companies that don’t have the time or manpower to do it themselves. Love it or hate it, social media is a fact of business life now,” says Tony.

Tomorrow's post will report on another independent hirer which is successfully using digital platforms to promote itself and win new business.
