Husqvarna’s hot summer
6 July 2020
Husqvarna Construction Products has bounced back strongly since lockdown restrictions were eased. While it would be premature to make anything but tentative comments about future demand trajectories, its experience would suggest that contractors are keen to open more sites and are spending on equipment.
“We have even sold three of our demolition robots (pictured above) in the past fortnight, and these are not cheap machines,” said Andrew Miles, National Field Sales Manager with Husqvarna Construction Products UK.
“What is particularly encouraging is that these customers saw the machines demonstrated well before the Covid-19 pandemic, and they feel confident to proceed now.
“Immediately after lockdown started, the construction market obviously took a massive hit as sites closed. We furloughed some of our staff but they have been returning steadily as the government has eased lockdown restriction.
“Our Lawn & Garden Division has kept trading strongly during the pandemic. Homeowners were getting jobs done while they were furloughed and equipment like mowers and brush cutters were in keen demand.
“Another Group brand is Gardena, which makes hosepipes and reels. The hot, early summer weather meant that people wanted to enjoy and care for their gardens, so sales were strong,” Andrew added,
“People have been doing DIY, tiling bathrooms, building sheds, and that has created demand for our construction products. And since more sites started re-opening, demand from hirers has risen for large floor saws, disc cutters, vacuums, concreting equipment and surface prep machines.
“Again, the vast majority of this equipment is for contracts that were in their early stages before the coronavirus, and they are now picking up from where they left off.”
