Himoinsa launches Hybrid lighting tower

Himoinsa has launched a hybrid version of its HBOX+ lighting tower which incorporates a battery power system as well as a Stage V diesel engine, offering reductions in emissions, noise and operating costs.

Designed for use at events and work sites requiring low sound levels and reduced CO2 emissions, the HBOX+ Hybrid can operate in four different modes, either in electric (100 per cent battery) or full diesel settings, as well as in hybrid mode (diesel and battery) or powered by the grid or an external source such as a generator.

Miguel Ángel Ruiz, Himoinsa’s Global Engineering and Development Head, says that “in none of the selected working modes is there a reduction in lighting capacity, even when the hybrid option is selected,” giving illumination over an area of up to 6400 square metres.

The unit has four 350W LED lamps and offers a progressive startup to avoid glare during operation in applications such as road construction. The manufacturer says that the machine can reduce up to 2600kg/year of CO2 when operating eight hours per day in hybrid mode.

The CET8 control system on the unit is designed for straightforward use, enabling the operator to set up the machine for optimum operation within four button clicks, says Himoinsa.

An app enables the HBOX+ Hybrid to be controlled remotely via a smartphone, tablet or PC, monitoring and adjusting parameters like battery status, fuel level, and servicing. The machine also has a dimming system that can automatically regulate light intensity and battery running time.

Power comes from an LFP (lithium ferrophosphate) battery designed for a lifespan of 6,000 cycles. Himoinsa says that these batteries offer extended running times compared against AGM variants, and fits them to all its hybrid and 100 per cent electric equipment.

The HBOX+ Hybrid can also be fitted with a second battery, doubling its storage capacity and minimising engine operating hours.

The machine’s two-cylinder Yanmar engine is claimed to give fuel consumption of less than 0.55 litres per hour and 600-hour service intervals.

Himoinsa says that it will launch further lighting tower models at the end of 2023.
