Eco additions at EHS

Visitors to the Executive Hire Show which opens a week today at the Coventry Building Society Arena (CBS) can expect to see a number of new environmentally friendly products. Here is just a very brief selection.

GenQuip Groundhog will launch its new i-range comprising two mobile welfare units designed to offer up to 90 per cent reductions in generator use over a 12-month period. The company says that, in summer periods, the generator should not be required at all. More solar panels are incorporated on the roof, together with an upgraded inverter and lithium batteries. Particular praise should also go to sales and marketing manager Peter Beach who has been running an innovative Hollywood-style social media campaign to raise interest in Genquip Groundhog’s new products.

Seddons promises a ‘world first’ on its stand with an early preview of the CT 610B Norton Clipper power float driven by a Honda eGX motor and  a 72Vbattery system.  Seddons’ Business Development Director David Probert tells me that other Norton Clipper products using the same Honda power platform will be added to the company’s portfolio in the coming months, including a masonry saw, floor saw, plate compactor and a rammer.

Thwaites will give the first UK showing of its new 3-tonne electric dumper (pictured below), mentioned previously on the blog. Power comes from four lithium-ion batteries operating at 48V and designed to enable an 8-hour shift of normal site operation from a single charge.

Also making its UK debut after having been seen at Bauma last October will be Sany’s battery powered SY19E mini excavator (pictured below), as again reported earlier on the site. Its electric motor delivers a peak output of 15kW and the machine is claimed to provide enough power for a day’s operation.

Ammann will promote the prototype eAPX 68/95 3D battery powered plate compactor. It has an operating height of just 700mm and is said to offer great manoeuvrability to facilitate work in demanding trench applications, including those with support systems and cross braces.

JCB will display its smallest ever Loadall telescopic handler alongside products from the manufacturer’s E-Tech range of electric equipment. The 514-40 model, mentioned earlier on the  blog, has a cab height of just 1.8m and a width of 1.56m and shares technology from larger models in the line-up.

BISAF will show its improved Particulator DPF that is designed to be fitted to machines of less than 60kW to reduce emissions. Also on display will be a new modular edge protection system for use around excavations on site. This uses supports that are driven into or bolted onto the ground.

Timberwolf will launch the TW 280HB hybrid wood chipper (below), which has a 24.8hp (18.5kW) Kubota turbo diesel engine along with what is described as a generator synchronous motor plus energy efficient SECH supercapacitors. This arrangement is said to provide faster recharge capability compared against lithium-ion batteries, with quicker release of energy. The integrated system is said to be self-supporting and not to require external charging to operate.

New from Atlas Copco is the E-Air plug-in electric compressor designed for zero emissions, small size, light weight and low vibration, with reduced running costs.

Wirtgen will display one of Hamm’s first fully electric battery-driven tandem rollers, the HD12eVO with vibration and oscillation, part of the HD CompactLine series.

Other innovations to look out for are the new battery powered Minimix 150E+ mixer from Altrad Belle; and Doosan Bobcat will show its E19e two-tonne electric mini excavator. And I've written separate items on new launches that will be displayed by Prolectric, MHM Group, LIFOS and Winget

The exhibition will be held on 8 and 9 February at the Coventry Building Society Arena (CBS). See you there!
