Speedy sets targets
6 January 2023
Speedy Services has submitted its first science based targets (SBTs) Net Zero Carbon model and decarbonisation roadmap to the SBTi Science Based Targets initiative for validation.
Amelia Woodley, Speedy’s director of ESG (environment, social and governance issues) says the company was the first hirer in the UK Hire to commit to SBTs and is the first to submit.
Several measures are being undertaken throughout the business to reduce carbon emissions under each of the three Scope areas. Briefly, Scope 1 refers to direct emissions from owned or controlled resources, such as from on-site operations and company vehicles. Scope 2 covers indirect emissions arising from power used by a business, while Scope 3 encompasses indirect emissions in the supply chain, from purchased goods and services, to the supplier’s business travel and distribution.
Speedy’s targets aim to achieve a 50 per cent reduction in scope 1 and 2, and a 42 per cent decrease in scope 3 aligned to a 1.5C pathway to decrease global warming. The company also intends to become Net Zero in carbon emissions with a 90 per cent reduction by 2040, ten years earlier than originally planned.
