Generator Power reports battery benefits

Specialist hirer Generator Power reports that demand continues to grow for the battery energy storage systems from Atlas Copco in its fleet.

However, what is particularly striking is that interest is rising not just because sites need to meet environmental obligations, but also to reduce costs.

“Increasingly contractors, house builders and other users are realising that these products can cut their fuel usage and save them money,” Generator Power’s Paul Davis told me.

Units in the hirer’s fleet include the ZBP 45 from Atlas Copco’s ZenergiZe range, which has a capacity equivalent to 45kVA and is pictured (above) on the Generator Power stand at the recent Showman’s Show in Newbury.

In a typical site setup, a backup generator can charge the battery quickly and at an optimum rate before cutting out and letting the battery provide site power, switching on again for recharging or to manage peaks in demand.

By reducing inconsistent loading, a smaller generator can be specified which will operate in a more efficient way as running time is lower and idling is decreased.

Paul says that interest is also growing in solar panels and wind turbines that can be connected to assist with charging the batteries, particularly for sites in remote locations.
