Speedy launches Stage V retrofit initiative

Following successful trials, Speedy has invested £1 million in upgrading its Stage IIIa generators to Stage V emission compliance, working with Eminox, an exhaust systems specialist.

To meet sustainability targets and the requirements of working in Low Emission Zones, many major infrastructure and construction projects require equipment to meet Stage V emission standards to lower the impact on air quality.

Compliant engines limit the overall volume of harmful pollutants, such as nitrogen oxide and carbon monoxide in exhaust gases, and are compatible with HVO fuel which emits up to 90 per cent less CO2e than diesel.

Nick White, UK sales director – power, at Speedy, said: “All major contractors are looking for Stage V generator technology as they strive to support sustainably ambitious projects, that goes above and beyond the current legislation on environmental impact. But demand is massively outweighing supply, with low availability blocking contractors from switching to greener power alternatives.

“We’ve invested millions of pounds in our Stage IIIa fleet over the last few years. Retrofitting these units to the increasingly essential Stage V emission compliant standard will help to deliver the capacity the market needs, while ultimately enabling contractors to operate more sustainably.

“Upgrading generators, rather than replacing, will also cut tonnes of waste in our business as Stage IIIa is phased out,” he added.

● Speedy’s power team was recently appointed by the Department for Business Energy and Industrial Strategy to ship 287 mobile generators to Ukraine, as reported earlier on the blog.
