Balfour Beatty to hold eco showcase

Balfour Beatty is to host a three-day Sustainability Showcase event at its Plant & Fleet depot in Shotts, North Lanarkshire next week.

Targeted primarily at schools and education partners, the event will run from September 7 to 9 and will enable visitors to learn more about what the company is doing to create a greener industry.

Diverse suppliers and a number of equipment hire companies will display the latest electric, solar and hydrogen powered vehicles and equipment. The Skills Development Scotland agency is supporting the event, offering participants the chance to try out new technology through its Drones in Construction - My World Of Work Live activity.

Displays will cover various themes and different stages of construction projects, including site set-ups with ‘eco’ welfare cabins, solar and hybrid lighting towers and solar powered CCTV and security.

Digital technology such as BIM modelling, quad-copter and fixed wing drones, telematics, geopolymer concrete and 3D printing techniques will be discussed, as well as energy management solutions such as hydrogen, solar and alternative fuels.

Visitors will also be able to see plant and vehicles running on alternative energy sources including electric HGVs and light commercial vehicles, battery powered excavators, dumpers, loaders, and telehandlers, as well as new pumping equipment and environmental services.

Balfour Beatty professionals will conduct group tours, discuss careers in construction and generally share their industry knowledge.

This should be a great opportunity for young people to discover what working in the modern world of construction and equipment hire is like and the career opportunities it offers. Indeed, I attended a similar event (pictured) that Balfour Beatty held last year at its Shotts depot just before the COP26 summit in Glasgow in November and it really was worthwhile.

So that the necessary arrangements can be put in place, enquiries about attendance and group bookings must be made by email to community.engagement@balfourbeatty.com
