Nixon adds Prolectric units

The latest additions to Nixon Hire’s renewables division fleet are ProPower solar hybrid generators from Prolectric, which will be available to customer sites nationwide.

With each machine hired, as a combined package, Nixon Hire customers will also receive an Erica distribution board, an energy management tool to provide real-time monitoring and data capturing.

The Erica name stands for energy reduction through informed control and information, and Nick Hibbard, UK division manager for renewables at Nixon Hire, tells me that the service is ideal for sites that need to monitor and optimise power usage for environmental awareness.

It incorporates sockets that can be individually timed and remotely controlled, helping customers to work out how to reduce their power wastage and to lower their on-site carbon emissions.

“Each socket can be dedicated to a specific part of the installation, like a drying room, canteen, office or toilet and can be adjusted accordingly,” says Nick.“We can control the operating times to avoid equipment being left on unnecessarily and we can adjust the power output via an app over Wi-Fi.”

Rachel Preen, commercial director at Prolectric, says: “It's always exciting to be working with a company that embraces innovation and sustainable change. Nixon Hire have already started collaborating with our R&D team and making a valuable contribution to our product development programme. This deal has the power to bring about change – helping companies and entire key sectors operate in a cleaner, greener and more innovative way".

Nixon Hire first product in the renewables division was the H20 Solar Pod, a self-contained unit combining solar PV, battery storage, a back up generator and a 400-litre fuel tank to power sites sustainably. These are now available with space saving retractable panels to power as many as seven cabins in the summer months.

The company says that in 2021 alone, almost 3000 tonnes of carbon emissions were saved collectively across UK customer sites, equivalent to planting more than 124,000 trees.

Other solar products available include welfare vans, portable toilets, street lights, lighting towers, and charging stations with a back-up generator and built-in battery bank to charge small tools and electric vehicles.

As reported previously on the blog, the renewables range also includes Solar Smart Frames designed to make any 32ft cabin into a renewable energy source. The tilting units can be roof-mounted or free-standing and used in conjunction with Solar Pods to power whole site setups. Electric vehicle chargers and battery banks are also available.
