Nixon charges forward

An issue highlighted earlier on the blog has been the difficulties that can be encountered in charging battery powered vehicles and equipment on sites without access to a convenient mains supply.

As part of its eco-friendly fleet, Nixon Hire offers a stand-alone vehicle charge point developed by Think-EV. The unit has a 25kg baseplate and can be used free-standing or bolted into place.

At the ScotPlant exhibition, pictured above, Nixon Hire showed the unit connected to a battery pack topped up by a solar array to deliver 7kW of charge.

“Demand for this is incredible,” Nick Hibbard, UK division manager for renewables at Nixon Hire tells me. “More sites are looking for solutions like this.

“We can record how much power has been taken and access can be controlled via a swipe card. The electricity delivered could also be charged for.”
