United Rentals Europe kicked off a series of UK depot events with an open day at its impressive facility in Warrington recently. More will be held at the operation’s other locations during the coming months.

Part of the US giant United Rentals Inc, the European operation focuses on specialist fluid handling equipment for sectors like utilities and industrial businesses, and construction markets are also growing. An expanding range of power generation products is also offered.

The Warrington open day displayed a number of working demonstrations highlighting key products and typical applications, along with customisable options.

One setup comprised an unlined 35 cu m storage tank connected to a 4in pump for removing sand and oil during infrastructure works and on construction sites. A skimmer was incorporated that could remove oil and other contaminants to a separate IBC tank.

United Rentals’ Kevin Jackson, Area Sales Manager UK, told me that the tank has patented side reinforcements to allow it to accept more weight without internal lateral struts, such as when solids are present. This keeps the unit compact, making it more suitable for construction site applications.

The unit was shown with a 30 cu m double-wall tank for bulk chemicals storage. This can be fitted with a gas scrubber to treat vapours and protect the surrounding environment.

Also displayed was a lamella filter tank, or inclined plate settler, for removing slowly floating and settling pollutants which are typically encountered in industrial processes.

A chemical dosing cabinet can be connected for pH control or coagulant addition, and a heater can be incorporated to prevent crystallisation. Lee Carey, United Rentals Europe Account Development Manager, said that levels can be monitored remotely.

Another part of the Warrington display included a rotary drum sieve for coarse and dewaterable waste, eliminating solids down to 3mm. A dewatering box for dealing with sludge and debris was incorporated, with a 4in electric eccentric screw pump designed for transferring liquids with high solids content.

A 70 cu m unlined separation tank was shown for dealing with large volumes of liquids. This can be fitted with the combination of a relief valve flame arrester and explosion relief valve manway for higher-risk situations. A remote monitoring system can also be incorporated.

Interestingly, power for the entire demonstration setup was provided by an 18kVA JCB Stage V generator connected to a 45kVA/60kWh battery energy storage system from Powr2. This reduces the generator run time, decreases emissions and when operating in battery-only mode is completely silent.
