Boom time for Snorkel
1 February 2023

Snorkel UK is reporting an increase in demand from hirers for its TL37J trailer-mounted boom lift since the relaxation of towing regulations just over a year ago.
From December 2021 anyone who passed their car driving test from 1 January 1997 can tow trailers up to 3500kg MAM (maximum authorised mass), meaning that a separate car and trailer test was no longer required. The TL37J weighs in at 1586kg.
The trailer-mounted boom was for many years a staple item in a lot of hire fleets because of its operational versatility, as it does not need to be loaded on to a dedicated delivery vehicle for transportation.
“A user like a CCTV camera installer or a 5G mobile phone mast worker might have several jobs in different locations during a typical day,” says Andrew Fishburn, Snorkel’s vice president sales UK & EMEA.
“Trying to organise transport with hire companies for the delivery and collection of machines would be difficult, but they can tow the trailer-mount behind a Transit-type vehicle, van or pickup and then move on to the next job.”
The TL37J offers a maximum working height of 12.9m with a platform capacity of 215kg. The machine’s stowed height is 2.1m and it has a jib boom for additional flexibility. Hydraulic outriggers are also incorporated.
