Belle’s battery poker

At a Travis Perkins Hire Innovation Day event in Northampton today, Altrad Belle gave me an early preview of a new battery-powered concrete poker drive unit that it is introducing on its 82V battery platform.

Ray Neilson (pictured above), Altrad Belle’s Managing Director, told me that the DUX E+ can be used with the mechanical drive pokers in the company’s BGA range which includes models from 25mm to 68mm, so they can be used with those already in hire fleets.

The drive unit has three speed settings of 2,800, 3,200 and 3,600rpm. It weighs 26kg without a battery.

Two battery sizes of 5Ah and 8Ah are offered and these can also be fitted in pairs to extend running times. They recharge from flat to 100% in 39 and 68 minutes respectively.

Ray said the DUX E+ incorporates a central lifting eye for easy handling and has the same patented stackable frame design that is used on the existing petrol-engine version of the poker drive unit and on certain other Belle machines such as generators.

This saves space in storage and transportation of machines, which Ray said are designed and built to withstand the rigours of hire industry usage.

The DUX E+ uses the same batteries as other models in Belle’s battery-powered line-up, which includes the DC 300 E+ disc cutter, Minimix 150E+ mixer, and the PCLX 32 E+ and PCLX 40E+ compaction plates.

Also included in the company’s stand display was a new portable storage box (pictured below, foreground) which can store two batteries and a charger securely in a tough plastic carrying case.

● Altrad Belle is also introducing a compact 125-litre mini bowser pressure washer powered by a Honda petrol engine and which is narrow enough to fit through a standard doorway or gateway. More on that, and on the Travis Perkins Hire Innovation Day generally, in future blog posts.
