Develon shows net-zero tech

Machines branded as Develon, the new identity for equipment previously offered under the Doosan name, were displayed at the Conexpo plant exhibition in Las Vegas last week, including several examples of net-zero energy technology.
The name change was announced in January 2023 following on from the sale of Doosan Infracore to HD Hyundai (formerly Hyundai Heavy Industries Holdings Co) in August 2021. Develon will continue as a subsidiary in the Hyundai Genuine group alongside Hyundai Construction Equipment (HCE).
Develon net-zero technology on show included the latest iteration of the e-Powerpack battery system, powering a DX20ZE-7 electric mini excavator.
The battery pack has several control and protection systems, such as a battery module that bundles a certain number of batteries in cell units into a frame, a battery management system (BMS) and a water cooling system.
Thomas Lee, Develon’s Director of Product Management, says the e-Powerpack is designed with wire bonding to help prevent thermal runaway (where intense heat causes adjacent cells to ignite in a domino effect).
He adds that serial and parallel combinations are adaptable for diverse voltages and battery pack capacities, which is part of the company’s plan for standardisation and expandability of the system.
The stand display also included two of the company’s hybrid engine technologies, one being a ‘mild hybrid’ power train (pictured) utilising a 48V electric motor and a lithium-ion battery added to an existing engine and system, with an e-Drive system for improved starting
The second engine promoted was a high-voltage, full hybrid power train with a 360V e-Drive system and a lithium-ion battery, offering the ability to optimise operation based on the application.
