Hook up to Groundhogs

Welfare unit manufacturer Genquip Groundhog has shown its versatility by developing a system that enables the cabins to be raised and transported by chain lift trucks.

Peter Beach, sales and marketing manager with the company, tells me that the Hook Lift configuration was originally developed for a demolition contractor that introduced a welfare unit hire service and had such vehicles in its fleet for transporting skips.

A large hook-up bracket (pictured below) is fitted at the front of the welfare unit to which the chains attach, while rear castors on the base give mobility.

Genquip displayed a Hook Lift version of a SWO7600 cabin with a Fusion Pulse specification at the recent Letsrecycle Live event at the NEC.

“The Fusion Pulse system comprises a 360W solar panel on the roof that trickle charges the internal battery, which can power the heating, lighting and warm water,” Peter told me. “The backup generator, which can run on HVO, is only needed for high-draw items like the kettle and microwave, or in dark winter conditions.

“We’ve been here on site and in the unit for three days, running laptops and charging mobile phones, and the generator hasn’t kicked in once. The Fusion Pulse setup typically reduces usage by 80 per cent.”

The SWO7600 model measures 25ft by 9ft and has space for up to eight people plus two more in the separate office.
