Power Saving hybrids for on-site efficiency

Power Saving Solutions is expanding, reflecting the growing interest in environmentally friendly equipment. The business has moved to significantly larger premises in Meden Vale, Nottinghamshire, and is steadily increasing its range of Hussh Pod hybrid generators.

“At the heart of the products is an intelligent battery system that can choose the nest way of powering a site,” sales director Mike Robbins told me.

“If needs be it will use the on-board generator or, if the power requirement is low, it will run the site via the batteries. The generator will charge the batteries as necessary.”

The machines use lithium batteries that can be recharged from 10 to 100 per cent in less than three hours, and Mike says it is possible to use them to power a site and then recharge them on an almost continuous cycle.

This means that what would be the equivalent of a 45kWh battery can be charged three times in a day to effectively give a 135kWh capacity, he says.

Mike adds that with rising energy costs and the recent removal of the red diesel rebate, the cost reductions that can be achieved from using the Hussh Pods can be considerable.

Power Saving Solutions can work with a client to determine the optimum way of running a site in terms of power capacity, timing of charging and other factors.

Machines can be managed via a remote monitoring system and, because the generator runs less frequently, the number of maintenance and service visits is reduced.

The model numbers in the range comprise two digits, the first denoting kVA and the second kWh. The line-up includes the compact Hussh Pod 1/2 battery pack which can be put in the back of a van to charge tools.

The 5/15 is a 5kVA model and the company’s bread-and-butter product is the 30/45, a three-phase machine that is modular. This enables several units to be linked to provide greater power or storage capacity.

Mike tells me that more Hussh Pod models are currently in development.
